This monday the Alqueva dam was blessed with the prize "Puente de Alcantara." The Foundation Spanish that gave highlights the exploitation of the hydroelectric project. The honor was presented by the Princes of Asturias, Felipe and Letizia.

The dam is a strategic reserve of water for the Iberian peninsula and enhances development in the sectors of tourism, agriculture and energy. Furthermore, the integration into the landscape is smooth. Were the reasons given for the award of this prize to the Portuguese hydroelectric, ex aequo with the barrier of Carauchi in Venezuela. The tender were 34 works, of which only two were Portuguese.
